How to play
- One real food or drink a day at the top. Below it, a plate or glasses to fill with something else.
- Drag up on the plate, or tap it, to add; drag down to take away. Stop when you think it holds the same energy as the thing at the top.
- Tap Show the real amount. The real amount fills in over yours, and yellow marks the part you got wrong.
One day a day, the same for everyone. A new one arrives at midnight.
Where the figures come from
The energy of every food and drink was read in two official food tables: FoodData Central, of the United States Department of Agriculture, and Matvaretabellen, Norway's national food table. The two agree within about a tenth, and the answer comes out the same from either, rounded to half a portion. Both are linked under the answer. The game counts food and glasses; it never shows a figure for the energy itself.
The portions: an apple is 180 g, a banana 120 g without its skin, a slice of bread 30 g, a boiled egg 50 g and a grape 5 g; a glass holds 250 ml and a can 330 ml. With grapes, within a tenth of the answer counts as spot on.
Why a drink is not the same as a plate: in studies, people who had extra energy as a soft drink went on eating as much as before, while the same energy as solid food was made up for later in the day (DiMeglio and Mattes, 2000).
