One puzzle a day, the same for everyone. A new one arrives at midnight.

What "closest relative" means

Two living things are close relatives when the ancestor they share lived not so long ago. Looks can fool you: animals that live in the same way often end up looking alike. The game only asks about the three it shows. The closest relative of all may be none of them.

Where the facts come from

Every answer is checked against two sources, linked under the answer. The game only uses relationships that scientists agree on.

Where the pictures come from

The silhouettes come from PhyloPic, a free library of drawings of living things. Many are in the public domain. Where the artist asks for credit, the name and the licence stand under the answer. The drawings were simplified for small screens. PhyloPic does not endorse this site.
