How to play
- The phone shows twelve countries and one rule, such as "More people than Spain".
- Take turns. Whoever holds the phone taps one country that fits the rule and checks it. Then the phone says to whom it goes next: hand it over, and that player taps to say they have it.
- The phone shows the real figure (or the real answer). A wrong country puts that player out.
- When no country that fits is left, a new rule comes. The last player still in wins.
The easy ones go first, so every turn gets harder. The phone never says how many countries fit.
Where the figures come from
The figures are the World Bank's open data (World Development Indicators), under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Each country's latest figure is used, at most six years old. The year stands with the bar's figure and, when a country's figure is from another year, in the line that tells it after a tap. No country in a round lies very close to the bar, so a small revision of a figure does not change an answer. The World Bank does not endorse this site.
Only the member states of the United Nations with at least a million people come into a round. Every list was checked on two websites:
Only each country's own land counts, not its overseas territories: the United Kingdom has no Mediterranean coast here, though Gibraltar has. A coast on the Caspian Sea does not count as a coast, so Kazakhstan is landlocked; Australia counts as a continent, not as an island country.
