How to play
- The phone hides one of the 193 member states of the United Nations.
- Take turns. Whoever holds the phone picks a question from the menu, reads out the answer and passes the phone on.
- After each answer you see how many countries are still possible. A good question cuts that number by half.
- Guess when you think you know: pick the country from the list. A wrong guess costs two questions.
Now and then two countries give the same answer to every question in the menu. Then only a guess tells them apart.
At the end you see the country, three true facts about it, and how few questions would have been enough. Play again as often as you like; every round hides a new country.
Where the answers come from
The figures are the World Bank's open data (World Development Indicators), under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Each country's latest figure is used, at most six years old, and the year is shown with every fact. "High income" is the World Bank's income group. The World Bank does not endorse this site.
The regions are the UN's statistical regions (M49). Every list was checked on two websites:
Only each country's own land counts, not its overseas territories: the United Kingdom has no Mediterranean coast here, though Gibraltar has. Questions about coasts on the oceans are not in the menu: the sources do not agree on them.
